An uneventful opening saw both teams struggling to break out of a dogged midfield fight with Witham certainly not taking a back seat as they tried to match the home side. An injury to the Jammers Rhys Henry after just 8 minutes saw Darren Mills take his place from the substitute s bench and certainly Rhys's absence seemed to unsettle the Jammers with little goal scoring chances or indeed any goal mouth action until the home side took a somewhat surprise lead after 26 minutes. There seemed little danger as Sam Newson received Ben Wyatt's long throw down the left side but the former cut inside and tried his luck with a shot from fully 25 metres which caught a wicked deflection off a visiting defender to balloon up and over visiting keeper Lewis Down who, although back pedalling desperately, could not prevent the ball from crossing his line. This seemed to perk the home side up a bit and they at last started to move the ball more quickly and did start to make progress through the visitors defence and were rewarded after 35 minutes with another goal when a great fast paced move forward started by Adam Mills put Newson away down the left and his fine cross found Darren McQueen virtually all alone in front of goal and he easily sidestepped Down before finishing into an empty net. During the first 45 minutes the visitors had shown glimpses of some promising play without really threatening the home goal as Curtis Haynes-Brown (pictured) dominated from the Jammers central defence but on 42 minutes they almost grabbed a goal but John Watson was unlucky to see his dipping 25 drive beat home keeper Shaun Phillips but then strike the crossbar before rebounding out.
A much more open second period started with the Jammers Darren Mills playing the ball through to Adam Mills and his strong shot from wide left was just tipped away by a Down before Down saved well again from the same player after he had got in a firm header to Tarryn Allarakhia's cross after the latter had done well down the right. The Jammers Keiran Monlouis then put a central 25 metre free kick straight into Down's arms before a cross from Newson was only half cleared out to Allarakhia but he put his shot from 5 metres out wide of the goal. Home full back Ben Wyatt then burst forward to send a cracking close range shot in that seemed to catch Down in the face and he finished dazed by the stop but after treatment was able to continue before another strong run from Allerakhia down the right past a couple of defenders ended with his cross being cleared at the expense of a corner. McQueen then neatly beat two defenders before putting in a strong shot from the edge of the penalty area that Down did well to hold then Darren Mills fired in a fine volleyed effort on the turn from the edge of the penalty box that Down again saved well. After all this pressure had not produced any further score the home side almost gifted the visitors a goal when a poor cross field pass gifted possession to the visitors and the Jammers were thankful for Wyatt's goal line clearance to prevent the ball going into the net. Just a minute later the visitors worked an even better chance when a good move forward put Watson through on goal but Phillips was smartly off his line to block the shot then another chance saw Phillips charge out of his goal to just force Ryan Charles away from goal after the forward had broken through the home defence. On 77 minutes the home side sealed the games result with a further goal when substitute Jamie Stephens played a good ball down the right channel for Newson to just get possession and swing over a high hanging cross that Darren Mills got up well to to head in at the far post. As the game drew to a close Newson headed just wide from Kyle Hammond's cross then a 20 metre rocket shot from McQueen found the back of the net but the effort was chalked off for an earlier off side decision.
