The Hawks follow up a win in the first game with another fine performance in the second game, edging out Chailey in another close match.

Line Up

Taking inspiration from the first match, the Hawks took the bull by the horns straight from kick off, scoring what must be the fastest goal of the season. Good initial work from Louis and Arun created a chance for Jude, who scored with a fine shot into the corner of the goal, barely 20 seconds after kick off!

The early goal didnt deter the determined Chailey players and they put together a good passing move straight from the kick off in attempt to get an immediate equaliser. Some brilliant defending from Albert at the back prevented a goal-scoring opportunity, and fellow defender Barney cleared the ball to safety with a determined run down the left hand side.

Arun, Luis and Gabe were all working extremely hard in the midfield, putting in some good tackles and not allowing their opponents any time or space to move the ball. Louis made another fine tackle in the middle of the pitch and played a fantastic pass through to right midfielder Arun, who lobbed the Chailey goalkeeper with a perfect chip to double the lead.

Almost straight from the kick-off it was nearly 3-0. Having won another tackle in midfield Louis took aim and hit a very powerful shot from outside the area, which the Chailey goalkeeper did very well to parry. The ever alert Jude looked to follow up, shooting from a tight angle, but once again the Chailey goalkeeper was alert and made another good save.

This sparked a period of sustained pressure from the Chailey team, desperately trying to get back into the game. Some fantastic defending from Albert prevented the Chailey forward from getting a shot away. However, shortly afterwards the defence was breached but this time Hugh was called into action for the first time, making a fantastic save to tip the ball round the post.

From the resulting corner, the ball could not be cleared away and a Chailey player thought he had scored as he hit a strong shot which beat Hugh. However, Gabe was on hand on the goal line to make a brilliant goal saving clearance. Hawks looked to have weathered the storm and some brilliant passing and moving from Jude, Barney and Louis nearly created another chance for Arun, but for some alert defending from Chailey.

Chailey were on the attack again and put together a fine move of their own, leaving the striker one on one with Hugh. His finish was right in the corner, narrowing the deficit to single goal.

Straight from the kick off, Chailey were on the attack again and forced another corner. The ball landed right in the middle of the penalty area causing confusion amongst the Hawks defenders. Chailey capitalised and scored with a well taken finish from close range, two goals in a minute for Chailey!

Despite conceding two quick goals, the Hawks were far from down-hearted, and took the game to their opponents once more. Some tremendous close control and skill from Louis created a chance for Gabe cutting in from the left, and his shot was agonisingly just wide with the Chailey keeper beaten. Straight from the goal kick some great interplay between Arun and Jude almost created another chance, but Chailey defended well.

With half time almost approaching Chailey attacked once more, and it looked as though they would take the lead as their striker ran through on goal. However, Barney never gave up, chased the striker down, and made a fantastic last ditch tackle to prevent Chailey from scoring.

A tactical adjustment made by the management team saw Albert take over in goal, Louis moved into defence, and Hugh come out of goal to slot into midfield. The Hawks took the initiative straight away, with Hugh, Jude and Gabe all combining to pass the ball well in midfield. Shortly afterwards Hugh won the ball with a fine tackle in the centre of the pitch and played a fantastic through ball to Jude, who ran clear of the Chailey defence and finished emphatically in the corner to regain the Hawks lead.

Back came Chailey straight from the kick off. Once again the Chailey striker broke away but Louis stuck to his task and put in a fantastic last ditch tackle to prevent a shot on goal. Hawks worked their way up the pitch and some impressive skill from Arun out-foxed the Chailey midfielder leading to a foul. From the resulting free kick, Louis delivered a tremendous cross into the penalty area, and Arun struck a great shot which went just wide of the post.

The Hawks continued to press, Jude won possession some way from goal, looked and hit a piledriver of a shot with shot just past the post with the goalkeeper well beaten. Barney broke out of defence and made a fantastic run down the right hand side, using a combination of skill and perseverance to beat at least three opponents. His cross was fantastic, and once again Arun took up a great position in the penalty area and shot just wide.

Hugh picked the ball up in midfield and pressed again, beating two opponents before looking up and sliding a perfect ball past the defence for Jude to run onto. There was only one outcome and Jude finished comfortably with a strong shot past the goalkeeper to increase the Hawks lead and complete his hatrick!

From the kick off the midfield three pressed their opponents and the ball ended up at Barneys feet on the right hand side. He surged forward, beating his opponent for pace. His cross was pinpoint and Jude casually flicked the ball into the corner for his fourth, and the Hawks fifth goal, a brilliant team effort!

Chailey's heads did not drop, and straight from the kick off they reduced the deficit with a good finish.

Straight from the restart Chailey pressed again, and only a brilliant save from Albert in the Hawks goal prevented another goal for Chailey. As the game neared its conclusion Arun went on a mazy run down the right, leaving his opponents trailing. His cross was excellent and only a great tackle from the Chailey defence stopped another chance for Jude. The resulting corner was cleared and the ref then blew the final whistle on what was a thoroughly entertaining game played in a great spirit by both teams.
