Head Coach, Sam Williams reflects on the first of this year's pre-season friendlies as the boys were narrowly beaten by a strong Sidmouth XV 31-21

We managed to achieve and exceed all our process targets today and the outcome largely took care of itself.... as a starting point today leaves me feeling confident and excited.
- Head Coach, Sam Williams

Firstly a massive thank you to the boys who pulled on the shirt today and gave everything in a really encouraging performance.

Our focus throughout pre season is to consider our urgency and passion for the defensive side of the game, and our organisation and continuity in attack. Today saw two process goals, one in defence, and one attack and one emotional goal, looking at how we interact as a group and working on rebuilding our confidence that understandably took a knock last season.

We managed to achieve and exceed all our process targets today and the outcome largely took care of itself. Whilst disappointed to come 2nd we don't lose sight of the fact that the tries for Sidmouth were scored by close to a first XV back line, and the defensive structures to shut down that quality of opposition will take time to develop.

Most pleasing was the growth shown by all players in terms of their confidence and committment and with a raft of both experienced and youthful faces to be added to the squad for next week's game at Crediton, as a starting point today leaves me feeling confident and excited.

A big well done to Joe for starting and scoring in his first senior game, and to Josh for his tireless efforts. Further mention to Billy, Paddy, Jack and Cookie who showed what they are capable of and to the team in general for pulling together so well.

Well done lads, and thank you to all who came to support and to Sidmouth for the game and loan of players when needed.

Training this week on Tuesday and Thursday (with Thursday combining (One) Wet with watching the Colts).
