Withycombe and Chard both brought experimental teams to this encounter, with players on both sides playing their first games of 15-a-side rugby. After 15 minutes it was a Withycombe stalwart who broke the deadlock though as Tracey Cox bundled over from short range, with Becky Skinner missing the extras. Chard fought their way back into the game and scored two tries of their own to lead 10-5 going into the break.
Injuries and the weight of numbers took their toll later in the game as Withycombe finished the stronger side. Bridget Culver scored to equalise with 14 minutes remaining but despite all their late pressure Withycombe didn’t seem to want to win it – Sophie Tomlinson even going to the trouble of crossing the tryline only to subsequently cross the dead ball line with four minutes remaining! A draw seemed a fair result and was a vat improvement for Chard over last time the teams met – and means that the Green & Black stay undefeated – just!
Tries: Tracey Cox, Bridget Culver. MoM: Beth Kendrick/Kelly Browring
