The match at Crediton started strongly with Withycombe having the best of the first half. Both teams defended well and forced 3 penalties in front of the Crediton posts giving kicker Jason Farrant an opportunity to score 9 points to put them ahead for most of the first half. Running rugby was difficult for both sides as good defending kept attacks from breaking through. However, Crediton scored twice with unconverted tries that came from set pieces inside the Withycombe 22. Their strong pack were able to drive the short distance to cross the line bringing the first half to a close at 10-9.
In the second half, the advantage of having a large squad of first and second year colts enabled the home side to keep fresh legs on the pitch. Withycombe were facing a big challenge having started with just 16 players. Two Withy injuries resulted in a Crediton player being loaned to Withycombe to keep numbers to 15 players each. Crediton were able to make their advantage count and eventually extended their lead to finish the game 24-9.
