This Saturday sees a hiatus in the Withies’ league campaign as we break for Round one of the Devon Junior Cup away at Ilfracombe.
Withycombe go into the game refreshed after last weeks last minute cancellation and walkover win over Plymouth Argaum, keeping the boys at the top of Devon 1 and giving them plenty of time to prepare for the cup clash.
In league terms, our hosts currently sit ninth in the league with the North Devon side yet to win a game. This, however means very little as cup ties often bring a different game and one the boys need to be aware of and they should still expect another tough game.
The two teams haven’t met since the early 90’s when both teams were last in Devon 1 together.
Speaking ahead of the game, Head Coach Sam said “We are looking forward to this week's game after missing out on last week and have taken the opportunity to mix things up a bit, with more lads returning to fitness in recent weeks and continuing the development of some promising youngsters.
It will be interesting to see how we go against Ilfracombe given that we have a league fixture against the same opposition in the league in a few rounds time, and the boys are certainly keen to do well and push for starting places as competition continues to grow within the squad.
We have started to look really sharp in training and the ability of players to fit into multiple positions is looking exciting as we move further into the season.”
Tomorrow's game kicks off at 3pm at Brimlands (EX34 9QN). We hope to see as many of you there to be that "16th Man" and support the boys, so bring your waterproof and supportive voices up the link road to cheer on the Green and Black.
