Derby day is almost upon us!
Yes, it’s the long awaited return journey down Marine Way to the Imperial Recreation Ground to play Exmouth Quins in round 20 of the 2022/23 season.
With just three games to go, it’s all to play for with each game being hugely important in regaining the momentum at the top end of the table, but this game will certainly mean so much more as the boys look to double up on their win against the Quins at Raleigh Park back in November.
A try from Dave Richards, penalty try and a Tom Cooke penalty steered the Withies to a 15-0 victory at home.
Despite a rocky run of form, Withy remain fourth in the table. An improved performance last weekend against Devonport Services IIs may still be seen as “the one that got away” but tries from Joe Blyth, George Doughty and Ben West resulted in a narrow 23-17 defeat and a consolatory losing bonus point.
Our hosts currently sit ninth but do have five games in hand after succumbing to the weather on multiple weekends over the winter.
So with the game approaching, both sides will be up for a highly competitive battle and will absolutely be a game you won’t want to miss! Withy team selection issues have eased a little now and we’ve got a healthy mix of strength upfront with some pace in the backs, ready for whatever the Quins bring in their starting XV.
We kick off at 2:30pm from the Imperial Recreation Ground and want to see each of you down to lend your support and cheer on the Withies!
