Here we go again... Round one of the Counties 2 Devon 2023/24 season! We get things started with a trip on the road to Taw Meadow to face North Tawton.
With preseason completed, Withy came away with two wins out of three matches. Win or lose, the boys came away with plenty to be encouraged with alongside some valuable lessons. It is also a good opportunity to introduce some new players to the team, with several debutants taking to the field. We were also in a fortunate position to welcome some of last year’s Colts players into the senior side. We look forward to seeing how all our new faces get on as the season progresses. A huge welcome to you all!
Onto this week’s game and a trip to Mid Devon to face North Tawton. Our hosts played just the one game during preseason where they ran out 33-12 winners against Tavistock 2s. This doesn’t mean they’ll be any less ready and we can expect a tough challenge as they’ll be just as keen to get their season off to a winning start.
In their two meetings last season, Withy were winners on both occasions, earning a 24-6 win at Raleigh Park and a much narrower 13-15 victory at Taw Meadow. Our hosts are a much stronger side when at home and the boys will be aware of this going into the game.
Tomorrow's side brings some excitement with an experienced side blending in with some of our new signings who have made an impactful introduction into the squad, with three of them contributing to seven of our twelve preseason tries - let's hope for some more as we get underway in the competitive season!
Tomorrow’s game kicks off at 3pm from Taw Meadow in North Tawton. For those referring to the sat nav, the postcode you need is EX20 2ED. Click Here for Google Maps directions.
As ever, we’d love to see you all come along and cheer on the boys in their opening fixture as they hope to get the season off to a winning start.
Please note that we’ve had communication from North Tawton to say that High Street is currently closed due to roadworks, and you will need to come in via the Arla Foods cheese factory.
...let the rugby season commence!!
