Round 2 is here and Withy welcome Old Plymothian & Mannamedian (OPM) to Raleigh Park for their first competitive home game of the season.
Withies made it a winning start last weekend on the road in mid Devon. With six tries scored - the first in the opening minute of the game - their 10-36 win puts them into second in the league after the opening weekend.
Our visitors suffered a narrow 20-26 defeat at home to South Molton, putting them into ninth at the earliest of stages in the season.
Although this will be the tenth meeting of our two sides, it is the first time since the covid-stricken 2019/20 season with both sides playing in the Devon 1 league. With the pandemic bringing the season to a premature conclusion, we managed just the one game against the Plymouth-based side. The game finished 14-26 to Withy in a closely fought contest at the King George V Playing Fields.
With almost four years passing between encounters, a lot will have changed in both camps and Withy can expect a tough challenge when OPM come to town as they look to bounce back from their opening defeat. At this early stage, every result counts and can make a sizeable difference in league standings so it’s game on!
Tomorrow’s game kicks off at 2:30pm at Raleigh Park. We’ll be open from midday however as we show tomorrow’s World Cup matches as well.
As ever, we want to see you all down to cheer on the boys. Let’s pack the park and get the atmosphere building for the season!
