This weekend, we’re back at Raleigh Park and looking forward to welcoming Devonport Services IIs in the seventh round of matches in the 2023/24 season.
With quarter of the season now behind us (already!), Withy currently sit fourth in the league on 22pts. The boys gained two places in the standings after last week’s convincing 10-52 away win at Ivybridge. Tries from Callum Tose, Tom Holmes, Joe Graham, Joe Blyth, Liam Cullen, Danny Sansom and two for George Doughty alongside six Lewis Tose conversions eased Withies to victory at Cross-in-Hand in what was the sides’ best performance of the season so far.
Our visitors this week also picked up a win at home last weekend, beating South Molton 13-10. This win keeps the Plymouth-based side in second place on 24 points. Just two points ahead of us.
Last season, our sides both claimed home fixtures against each other, with Withy winning 31-0 at Raleigh Park, but falling to a 23-17 defeat at the Rectory.
Tomorrow’s game should be well contested with both sides performing well. A win for the Withies would see them leapfrog Devonport in the league to set themselves up well for our derby clash against Exmouth Quins in a fortnight.
With only a couple of changes in the lineup from last week, the team can hopefully bring some consistency and if they can play with the same spark as last weekend, we should have a great game on our hands. They will be facing tougher opposition so will need to bear that in mind as Services won’t be willing to give up their league position easily!
The game kicks off at 2:30pm at Raleigh Park. Your support is always greatly appreciated and will provide a great atmosphere to match what we hope to be an equally as great game!
