The Withies return to Raleigh Park on Saturday for another important afternoon of league rugby, welcoming Plymstock Oaks for their first visit to the ground in more than five years.
Withy will be looking to build on last weekend's performance at Brixham. Although the boys came away with a 46–25 defeat, four tries secured a bonus point and there were plenty of signs of attacking intent in difficult conditions. Having also put 24 points on the board against OPM earlier in the month, the Withies will be keen to carry that attacking threat into Saturday's fixture.
There are also areas for Withy to build on. In each of the last two fixtures, the opposition have added late scores, making the final margins look more comfortable than the contests had been for much of the afternoon. Managing those closing stages will be an important focus, particularly against a side capable of taking advantage of any opportunities that come their way.
The last time Plymstock visited Raleigh Park, back in September 2021, the teams played out a 15–15 draw. The return fixture in February 2022 was a tougher afternoon for Withy, with Oaks taking a 60–5 victory. Saturday offers a chance to write a new chapter in that fixture.
It won't be an easy task. Plymstock arrive unbeaten after five league matches, having scored 266 points and conceded 75. Their 59–0 win over Tavistock last weekend is a reminder of the challenge facing the Withies, but home advantage and the support from the sidelines will be important as the team looks to make life difficult for the visitors.
There'll be no hiding from the challenge ahead, but the Withies will be ready to get stuck in and give their home support something to get behind.
Kick-off at Raleigh Park is at 2:30pm and all support is, as ever, greatly appreciated.
