Withies Men Return to Raleigh Park
This weekend we welcome the Players, Coaches and Supporters of Old Technicians to Raleigh Park in round 2 of the 2019/20 Tribute Devon 1 league.
The Withies will be looking to build on last week's 46-10 victory against Buckfastleigh and get their 'home' record off to a winning start.
With an impressive 8-try victory away from home in the first week, including one in little over a minute, the boys will have no doubt that they are ready for whatever any team may throw at them.
This may well come in handy as this is the first time that we have played the Plymouth-based side.
Old Technicians themselves will also have a point to prove after their 25-14 loss away to fellow Plymouth side OPMs with a last-play try sealing the victory for the home side.
With both teams keen to impress this early in the season we should be guaranteed a great game of rugby!
In his match preview, Sam Williams said: “ Games against Plymouth sides rarely lack for physicality and I am keen to see how our pack in particular responds to the challenge. We are again able to name a full 20 man squad, with minimal changes to last week's side. This week has seen us focus on maintaining the discipline to stick to our processes and shape in both attack and defence and my challenge to the boys will be to move closer to an 80 minute performance.
We are also looking forward to playing at home for the first time this year (including pre season) and hope our supporters will come and see the progress we are making after such a tough year. Saturday also sees the long awaited return to action of Chris Gibbons and he will at some point get some game time in the next stage in his return from injury. Welcome back Fridge!
Looking forward to seeing you on Saturday!”
Before the match, we shall be remembering long-standing club member, John Goldfinch, who sadly passed away at the end of July.
Saturday's game kicks off at 3:30pm at Raleigh Park. A slightly later kick off than normal to accommodate the Colts match beforehand. We hope to see as many of you there to be that "16th Man" and support the boys.
