This weekend, the Withy boys host Torrington in round 8 of the Tribute Devon 1 League, a game that the Withies will be keen to play following the fortnights break caused by last week’s postponed match against Ilfracombe. That particular match is now pencilled into the diary for the 30th November, meaning that the quarter final of the Devon Junior Cup will be pushed back to December or January.
Back to this week, and Withycombe go into the game still unbeaten and currently sit second in the league on 29pts, one point behind Tamar Saracens with one game in hand.
Our visitors travel down from North Devon currently sat in 6th place, winning three of their seven games, their most recent result being a 34-3 loss away from home against the league leaders, Sarries.
Withycombe and Torrington last played each other two seasons ago, with Withies earning a 53-3 win in October 2017 and then narrowly losing the return fixture 22-20 in Torrington in the following February. With one game apiece in their last season together, the Withies will be preparing for a tough encounter and will want to make an early impression in the game and get some early points on the board.
Ahead of Tomorrow’s game, Head Coach Sam said “We're going to this weekend praying that the weather holds and we can finally play some rugby. The boys have trained well this week and that really sharp in a run through last night and I'm excited to see them transfer from the training pitch in to game day.
We have also managed to secure 18 fixture for this evening against Tiverton 3rd XV and for the first time since I came back to the club we are able to put out a strong and full second team squad in addition to a full 20 man squad for the first time on Saturday.
As mentioned previously there seems to be a really good feeling around the players and this week so as move training out to Bicton which has been largely successful.
Fingers crossed that this weekend lots of rugby can be played and that the things we have been working on are on show.
Hope to see lots of you at either or both games and catch you in the bar afterwards.
Tomorrow's game kicks off at 2:30pm at Raleigh Park. We hope to see as many of you there to be that "16th Man" and support the boys, so bring your supportive voices to cheer on the boys in Green and Black.
