Last weekend, the Withies showed how stamina can make or break a result as they broke the 19-19 half time deadlock with two unanswered tries in the second half against a strong Ilfracombe outfit. At the end of the game, Sam Williams praised the depth in the Withies squad, adding how the boys could perform consistently, regardless of selection.
Our visitors, Totnes, currently sit seventh in the league with an equal spread of results, winning 4, losing 4 and drawing one game to date. Most recently, the “Chiefs” were 21-15 winners against Plymouth-based side Old Technicians.
Withycombe and Totnes haven’t played each other in many a season, meaning that Totnes will bring that now familiar unknown element to the game. Club Secretary, Dave Josey touches on this in his ‘From the Touchline’ article this week, saying “Totnes will give us plenty to think about and we will need to be on our game if we are to gain a win...”
Speaking ahead of the game, Head Coach Sam said “We return 'home' for what feels like the first time for ages this weekend having avoided upset after a tricky trip to Ilfracombe.
Although there are again quite a few changes this week, the squad is again picked from players who are comfortable with the systems in place and I am hopeful that we will see a more coherent display this weekend.
Totnes have had a really mixed bag of results but as always we approach the game with respect for them, but with more focus on pushing ourselves and creating a performance that is tough to play against.
Here's hoping the weather stays and we can get our attacking game going, and that lots of you come down to have a watch.
See you all Saturday!”
Tomorrow's game kicks off at 2:30pm at Raleigh Park. We hope to see as many of you there to be that "16th Man" and support the boys, so bring your supportive voices to cheer on the boys in Green and Black.
