This weekend, the Withies will be hoping it’s third time lucky as they hope to make the journey up to North Devon to play Ilfracombe in the re-arranged seventh round of the Tribute Devon 1 league.

The last two planned meetings between the sides have fallen foul of the British weather and a waterlogged pitch as prevented any match action. Due to this, the opening round of the Devon Junior Cup was given to us as a ‘bye’ from Ilfracombe meaning we face either Torrington or Exeter Saracens in the second round, which is to be played in either December or January (TBC). With this being the case, it’s just the league points in contention this weekend.

Last weekend, the Withy boys continued their 100% record as a strong second half away from home was converted into a 12-52 win against New Cross.
Our hosts, Ilfracombe are still yet to get their first win under their belts, and find themselves at the bottom of the table following last week’s walkover loss to Plymouth side OPM.
As ever though, our boys can take nothing for granted and need to go into the game expecting a tough challenge from a team that will be keen for their first win.

In his comments ahead of the game, Head Coach Sam said: “Whilst the backline has remained fairly consistent there are a number of changes in the pack this weekend due to injury and unavailability, what this does mean however is an opportunity for players with not many starts under their belts to press for a starting position in the next couple of weeks. Callum Board-Lynch has impressed off the bench with his energy we and physicality in several games and it will be great to see how he goes from the start this week.
As with all teams in this league Ilfracombe will be an unknown quantity really as not much can be taken from most sides' results given the variety of sides that appear at home or away. with this in mind we approached the game with full respect for our opponents and will be determined to focus on our own performance and sticking to the processes that have served us well so far.
Here’s hoping the sun holds and we can have another good game tomorrow”

Tomorrow's game kicks off at 2:30pm at Brimlands (EX34 9QN). We hope to see as many of you there to be that "16th Man" and support the boys, so bring your supportive voices up the link road to cheer on the boys in Green and Black.
