After a week off we’re back and ready for round ten of the Tribute Cornwall/Devon league where we welcome Torquay Athletic to Raleigh Park.
The Withies go into this game on the back of two loses, most recently an unexpected 24-13 loss on the road in Newquay. In a game where some key play-making decisions made the difference. Tries by Sam Warren and Danny Sansom put us in the lead, but a 57th minute converted try and two late penalties gave the Hornets the 4pts on the table.
Two weeks on, the boys will be refreshed and bolstered with improved availability and more players returning from injury. This is the perfect opportunity to put those games behind us, regroup and get the season back on track and put on a good performance against the Tics.
Our visitors currently sit fourth in the table and suffered defeat themselves a fortnight ago when they hosted table-toppers Topsham at the Rec. A flurry of late tries saw Topsham come away 26-41 winners and end Athletic’s unbeaten home run, a feat the same team did to us the week before!
With both teams vying to get back to winning ways, this promises to be a cracking game to everyone to enjoy. The two sides last met in March of 2019 at Raleigh Park in a game where Torquay won 26-40 with Withy tries from John Parkin, Max Cooke, Jason Farrant and this weekend’s Vice Captain, Danny Sansom.
Tomorrow’s game kicks off at 2:30pm at Raleigh Park and we’d love to see you as ever. Your support always gives the boys that extra boost. For those that can’t make it, however the usual updates are available online at: https://bit.ly/wit-tor
Away from the field, we’re also hosting our Sporting Lunch with guest speakers Kai Horstmann & Carl Rimmer. We will be holding an auction with some amazing items, such as signed shirts from the Exeter Chiefs & England Rugby. The full list of lots is available to view at: https://bit.ly/WRFC-SLA2021 and there are still some tickets available for the afternoon itself, so get in touch if you’re interested!
