We’re back from our extended Christmas break and it’s time to get back to action as we welcome Cullompton to Raleigh Park.
It’s been four weeks since we last took to the field down in Cornwall when a youthful Withies side took on second-placed Pirates Amateurs in a tough 22-05 loss at the Mennaye. Dave Richards’ try at the end of the first half was our only score in a game where the score didn’t reflect the tough shift the lads put in against a side that went on to score 103 points in the following game against Saltash; our planned game that weekend against Plymstock Albion Oaks was postponed until February to prevent any COVID cases in the Withy & Plymstock camps that close to Christmas.
So, with just under a month’s rest and Christmas out the way, it’s time to get the second half of the season underway back at Raleigh Park and with a match day eighteen combining youth and experience, it’s an exciting opportunity to put together some excellent rugby.
Our visitors, Cullompton currently sit third in the league and are on a 5-game winning streak. Most recently, Cully saw off fourth placed Bude 42-19 at Stafford Park.
Withies will be wanting to get the year off to a good start with a home win and put an end to that winning streak, a task that will require a mix of skill, teamwork and stamina, we’ve proven we’re capable of this in other games this season, so can certainly do it again!
When our two teams last met back in September, Cullompton were convincing 48-7 winners in a strong performance with Withies’ only try coming courtesy of Joe Blyth on 60min. However. this was only our third game back in the new league when we were just finding our feet. With another 10 games under our belt, we can hopefully expect a much improved performance and a good game of rugby this weekend as we hope to overturn that loss…
Kick off is at 2:30pm at Raleigh Park, but as ever we’ll be open from 1pm for the usual pre-match beverages.
We’d love to see you all there - your support really does make a difference!
If you can’t be there, live match updates will be available online on social media and this page
