It’s the first away game of 2022 and we’re heading across the Tamar Bridge to play Saltash.
Withies go into the game off the back of a much-improved performance against the in-form Cullompton at Raleigh Park last weekend coming away with a well deserved losing bonus point. A late flurry of action on the Cully 5m line almost saw them come away with more, but it wasn’t to be. The LBP was still good enough to see the boys climb two places in the league to 7th, tied on 31pts with Tavistock (8th) & Veor (9th).
Our hosts, Saltash currently sit 11th in the table on 22 points. In their most outing, the Ashes lost 15-26 at home to 5th placed local rivals Plymstock Albion Oaks.
Meetings between our two sides are usually close ones, this was made evident when we last met in round 4 back in September. Dave Thomson’s 79th minute try from the driving maul ended an outstanding comeback and handed Withy the 22-21 victory after initially trailing 8-16 after 60min. With another tough encounter expected against the Cornishmen, a full 80min on top form will be required if the boys in green and black want to earn themselves their first “double” of the season.
Saturday’s game kicks off at 2:30pm at Moorlands Lane in Saltash (PL12 4HJ). As ever, your support is always hugely appreciated and we’d really like to see you down in the Duchy to lend your voices in support.
For those that unfortunately can’t join us, the usual updates will be available via social media and at https://bit.ly/sal-wit
