It’s been a long week - it’s definitely time for some more rugby!! This weekend we’re welcoming Hayle to Raleigh Park in round 17 of Tribute Cornwall/Devon.
Withy will be looking to bounce back after last weekend’s defeat to Saltash at Moorlands Lane. A sluggish start from the boys gave the Ashes an early lead with three tries within twenty minutes. The boys fought back with a try by George Doughty inside the first half and a stronger, more dominant second half saw two tries by Mike Richards but this wasn’t enough to reverse the damage in the first half, eventually losing 41-17. This stumble in the recent good form will hopefully be put right and the boys can get back on track when Hayle come to town.
Hayle themselves are having a difficult season and currently sit bottom of the league on -1 point. Most recently, they lost 12-79 against Cullompton at Memorial Park.
In our last game with Hayle, a controversial last minute penalty saw us lose by just a single point (13-12). A disappointing final result after leading for large parts of the game. The boys will certainly be looking to reverse that result this time round and will look to get early points on the board and come away with a more convincing score line at full time.
Team selection this week would’ve been hampered a little with a number of injuries picked up against Saltash last week; however with there still being a level of depth to the squad we’ve still managed to get a great match day 18 that are ready and raring to get the job done!
Kick off is at 2:30pm at Raleigh Park, but as ever we’ll be open from 1pm for the usual pre-match beverages and Champions Cup Rugby. We’d love to see you all there - your support really does make a difference! If you can’t be there, live match updates will be available online on social media and this page
