Derby Day awaits…
Storm Eunice will huff and puff but she (hopefully) won’t blow the game away as we make the short distance up the A376 to play Topsham at Bonfire Field.
Last weekend, the boys staved off a late push by Liskeard-Looe deep into added time to come away 13-10 winners at Raleigh Park. An early Tom Cooke penalty and first half tries from Max Cooke and Jack Sharland was just enough to make the difference in a close game. The four points from the game has kept us in 9th in the table, but with a slightly more comfortable 5pt gap ahead of North Tawton who sit 10th.
Our hosts this week continue to put in strong performances each week, most recently winning 62-17 at home against Tavistock to keep them in second place, one point behind league leaders Pirates Amateurs.
When we last met back in October at Raleigh Park, the Withy boys put in a strong performance and were unlucky not to come away with any points on the board with the final score ending 0-24.
It’s been no secret that selection has been an issue lately with several key players out on both short and long term injuries. Thankfully this week sees the return of Dave Richards, Jake Prophett-O’Neill and Luke Pattison to strengthen the pack. This certainly doesn’t complete the list but hopefully we can be back to full strength sooner rather than later!
As ever, Derby Days always bring exciting rugby and we’d love to see you come along and support the boys.
There’s a full afternoon of entertainment too as the Walking Rugby side are playing a friendly against Topsham Fossils at 1pm before the main game kicks off at 2:30pm.
For those that can’t join us at Bonfire Field, updates will be available on our social media channels and on this page
