Torquay Vs WRFC

Last Sunday Withycombe under 11`s made the trip to Torquay and found the size and pace of a team on form to much to handle. The young Withies seemed a little frightened by this and were on the end of two big defeats by 40-5 in the first match and 45-10 in the second With Jack Wood and Erin Assleman missing, injuries picked up to Alfie Gillard And Paddy McGuiness early on certainly didn`t help matters. Harry Bennett, Harry Williams and Joe Bowden soon followed as the physicality of the game was taking their toll. Withies sole try was scored by Charlie Passmore.

Game two saw the boys up their game and the score line didn`t reflect the possession Withies were now creating. However , time after time the ball was lost at crucial times allowing Torquay to break from deep to land five of their tries from well inside their own half. Charlie Passmore scored before becoming another casualty with an ankle injury and Henry Bragg darted over for the other Withy try. Torquay are a well organised side with a small squad who can all play to their ability. Withycombe`s trouble is they are not the biggest team and seem to be overawed against bigger opposition. Lack of basic skills deserted them today, not helped by injuries to key players. James Griffin, Ollie Williis and Callum Tose all had fine games. A bad day at the office.
