Strength to Strength

The Withycombe under 12`s season keeps going from strength to strength with an accomplished display of rugby to whitewash Exeter Youth last Sunday.
After a cagey five minutes from both sides, the deadlock was broken with Alfie Gillard barging his way over the line, before James “the thief “ Griffin added his first of the day. Another Gillard score took Withies to the break 15-0 to the good. Exeter Youth then lost one of their influential players after an accidental kick to the head, and with it, the chance to claim a victory.
The pace of Withies was just too hot and further scores were added in the second half by Griffin, Paddy McGuinness, Erin Asselman, Jack Wood and Charlie Passmore. Final score 35-0 to Withies.

Match two was another superb show of attacking rugby from Withycombe, but their defence was just as good, snuffing out any attack that Exeter could throw at them. Joe Dale had a superb game, and he and Callum Tose were at the forefront with sublime tackling and clearing out at the rucks. Max Wilkinson and Erin Asselman ran the channels well, and Jack Wood was always to the breakdown first. The scoreboard was ticking over at will, with 13 scores being added by Withies over the two halves. Harry Bennett (4) Passmore (3) Max Wilkinson (2) and tries for Jack Draper, Wood, Asselman, and Ollie Willis completing the 65-0 scoreline.

Exeter Youth aren`t a bad side, and never gave up. Maybe with a full squad today would have posed a few more problems. But this exciting Withies unit are a class act, and can only get better as the season continues. Well done Boys
