Powerful game

Tavistock under 12`s were the visitors last Sunday to Raleigh Park , trying to undo Withies under 12`s unbeaten run. It was only a last gasp try from the host to keep this in tact, with Withies winning 25-20. With only 11 fit players due to niggling knocks and unavailibities , Withies were kindly loaned a couple of Tavistock players. The visitors were soon two tries to the good, before Erin Asselman pulled one back, unfortunately injuring his foot doing so, and he missed the rest of the game. It was soon obvious that Tavistock used their lumpy forwards to great effect, but the tackling of Max Wilkinson and Joe Dale was sublime, thwarting wave after wave of bulldozing runs. Withies were now gaining the other hand, and a clearance kick to Charlie Passmore allowed him plenty of space to chip over and win the race to bring the scores level. Another backs move again saw Passmore join the line and give Withies a slender 15-10 lead at half time. Tavvy soon equalised early in the second half, and a draw looked on the cards, but Passmore soon completed his hat trick, before a dropped pass allowed Tavistock to draw level. With time running out, constant pressure saw Joe Dale scamper over to win the game for Withies after numerous phases of play. A big shout out to all the weary legs of Withies today. Sam Skinner and Henry Bragg both had good games. Although Withies are a skilful outfit, what they lack are big powerful forwards, and hopefully recruiting a few more players will make them even more formidable.
