Amid constant downpours and a pitch getting heavier as the game went on the Withy boys, and their small numbers, were likely to be tested in all aspects.
It would be the dogged determination of the team in the tackle and breakdown and the skills of the handling that would win the day. The handling from both sides was excellent given the appalling conditions, but it was the Withycombe youngsters who adapted better, and with an excellent kicking game were able to play territory and put real pressure on the Crediton youngsters.
Scores would come at regular intervals with most coming out wide as the ball was being moved swiftly through the hands. However the Withy boys were now also dominating the breakdown area and securing good ball and possession.
The last play saw Crediton within five meters of the Withycombe line however the green and black wall stood strong and was determined to not let Crediton cross. And they would get their reward as the turned the ball over to secure the game.
Final score: Crediton 0 Withycombe 46
