Great to be back for U16s

On a sun drenched August afternoon at a picturesque Raleigh Park in front of a large and vocal crowd Withycombe U16s took to the field for their first game of a long awaited season. Tor RFC were the opposition as Withycombe were able to host them last minute whilst they were on tour.

This was to be a fast paced encounter in which both sides gave everything out on the field. And it proved to be quite the spectacle.

Tor were to be a direct side, keeping the ball close to the forwards at all times. Whilst the Withy boys, boasting five debutants this season, were looking to move the ball through the hands and use their pace and the whole width of the field.

After a tight opening 20 mins, which saw the Withy youngsters with a slender lead, the tries started to come at regular intervals with no fewer than eight try scorers. In the high heat and sunshine the fitness levels of the Withies was also shining through as there Somerset opponents started to flag.

At the end of a truly friendly yet hard and physical game the young Withies had run out deserved winners by an eye catching score line whilst conceding zero.
