Withycombe's youngsters travelled to South Devon with a very much depleted squad of twelve to face the stern challenge of Brixham.
Once again the Withycombe players would not be lacking in effort or skill but would find themselves coming up
on the wrong side of the try count. The games were played at a furious pace with Brixham getting a couple of early scores. The reply came from the marauding Bobby Pond and the ever determined Ben Jeffery, both of whom were making their presence felt in midfield.
The hosts were making the most of home advantage in every way, and were seemingly able to score at will. This was however aided by a period of missed tackles and not competing at the breakdown.
In the second half things started to turn around. New players Cayla Chowings, Ned Mills and Jamie Rose were now actively looking to get involved. The runs of Brendan Mills and Finlay Jobson were starting to open up space. And from this the elusive running of Lewis Tose coupled with the passing of Kieran Long was leading to space out wide which was being put to superb use by Jack Macdonald-Brown and Jack McBryan. The latter getting a stamp on the arm for his troubles.
Withycombe were now also getting joy from going directly at the Brixham defence with Corey Mills and Pond being the main beneficiaries. All of this though was not enough however as the score line closed at 18-10 to the hosts.
Next Sunday sees the Withies at home to Exmouth RFC. A highlight of the season and a fabulously friendly derby day.
