With the absence of any 1st XV rugby, it’s a chance for the 2nd XV to get their second run-out of the season.
This weekend, the 2s welcome Topsham 2s to Raleigh Park for what is expected to be a great game of rugby.
Following last season’s temporary dissolving of the second team, it has been good to be able to get a second team going once again, being able to arrange the occasional fixture to develop our second year Colts and start to transition them and give them a taste of senior rugby. Alongside the Colts will be some more experienced players and those that are looking for a more ‘casual’ approach to their rugby where various commitments prohibits them from regular competitive rugby. Each of these players will be able to assist the younger players in the development of their rugby skills as they prepare for more senior matches.
The first outing for the 2s was back in November when they travelled to mid-Devon to play Tiverton 3rd XV. This high-tempo, top quality game of rugby saw the Withies scoring 4 tries, coming away with an impressive 25-10 victory.
Our visitors, the more established Topsham 2s, currently play their rugby more regularly in the Devon Merit Table where they sit in third place, winning eight of their 11 outings this season and currently find themselves on a 6-game winning streak, most recently winning 36-19 away against Crediton 3rd XV.
All this makes for a potentially great game of rugby, a game which should prove a good test for our boys. However, with the Colts, of which 11 of them feature in tomorrow’s game, also growing in skill and confidence they are more than capable of bringing it to Topsham and make it an enjoyable game to watch!
