Witney Town slipped to their third consecutive defeat in a row at home when they went down 3-2 to high flying Slimbridge at the Witney Community Stadium.

In a lively encounter between two of the top sides in the division. Witney had an early effort just scuffed wide by Mark Janes before Jamie Zoldan was called into action to save a header from Roberts. Nick Thorne's corner nearly swung in with the wind and Evans had to tip over before eventually on 19 minutes the visitors took the lead. A cross by Ward was headed back by Bennett and Roberts run in to smash the ball home. Witney responded well and Ferreira missed a golden opportunity when Janes cross found him in the box but he headed wide. Janes and McDonagh continued to pressure the Slimbridge defence before Mark Janes should have levelled but he shot straight at keeper Evans who pushed it round for a corner. Adam Morris had a shot blocked late on in the first half.

The 2nd half started badly for the Blanketmen however with a goal inside 2 minutes - Roberts getting through and finishing well for his 2nd. A third killer goal arrived on the hour. Ward's free kick was headed on by Roberts and Bennett netted. It was substitute Yashwa Romeo on his league debut that got Witney back in the game with a header on 65 minutes. Conor McDonagh nearly made it two but his shot was blocked on the line. Speers was lucky to stay on the pitch after yanking back Adam Morris when through but the referee deemed it only a yellow. Romeo went close again with a bicycle kick (deemed dangerous by the referee surprisingly) and decisions didnt seem to go going the way of Witney. It was another substitute Ryan Brooks who grabbed a 2nd with 2 minutes to go which made for a tense finish and although the Blanketmen threw the proverbial kitchen sink at Slimbridge it wasnt to be. Witney slip to 4th in the table 4 points off the top

Next up for Witney is a trip to Headington Amateurs in the Bluefin Sport Challenge Cup next Saturday (1.45 kick off) where we will look to return to winning ways - however our next home game isn't until December!
