Witney Town 0 Ascot United 2

In a disappointing display at home in the FA Vase to Ascot United the Blanketmen made a meek departure going down 2-0 for their first home defeat of the season.

Witney started poorly before Mark Janes done well set up Jermaine Ferreira for a chance which was blasted just over on 13 minutes. Foster saved well from a free kick before Kameron Abbassi's last ditch tackle on Bennett denied the visitors again. Little by way of chances was being created for either side in a cagey first half. Dobson's throw nearly saw Conor McDonagh break the deadlock before half time but he curled it wide of the goal.

Nick Thorne was brought on for Denel Thomas at half time to try and pick up the game for the hosts but it was the Yellamen who looked lively again as Waddieh just headed wide. McDonagh's turn on shot was straight at the keeper on 55 and the game became cagey once more. Eventually a twisting turning run from Lee Boon saw him beat several defenders before sliding the ball past Foster in the Witney goal to give the visitors the lead - it had been coming. Nick Thorne's shot was well blocked soon after. James Dobson had a long shot fly wide. With 10 minutes to go Moses and Rixon came on for McDonagh and Morris and Witney put some pressure on at the end without success. Abbassi nearly put through his own net with a backpass which Foster just caught up with before Ferreira's effort was cleared on the line 3 minutes into injury time as the Blanketmen piled everyone forward and a long ball out saw sub Ben Knight break from inside his own half to eventually round the keeper and put the ball into the net thus sealing the tie.

Witney could have no complaints as they were outfought by a better team on the day. Here's hoping for better things next time away at Shrivenham in the league.
