Saturdays antics kicked off early with Furness ‘forgetting’ to let the team know how he would be getting to the game, which unfortunately resulted in Rohde and Searle having to fold themselves into the back of a TT for the journey to Brentford
Woking started the game in their usual manner of changing styles of play looking to open up the West Hampstead defence. This seemed to work both ways as both Woking and West Hampstead found themselves in the opposition D having chances on goal.
One such West Hampstead attack saw them bring the ball down the baseline into the D, however the Immovable mountain also known as ‘Barticorn’ stood in the attackers way. A thunderous but fair tackle was made, however the umpire did not agree and a penalty Stoke was awarded. The stroke was converted putting the home side 1-0 up.
The second half kicked off much like the first, which both teams patiently working the ball around the defence. This paid off well for West Hampstead with them scoring twice in quick succession. The home side was now 3-0 up.
Woking pressed hard putting West Hampstead under pressure, a loose ball was pounced on by McLean who scythed his way into the D to win a corner. The injection to Maclane was on point, who delivered his flick to Brown running in for the deflection. Score was now at 3-1.
Following on from this can only be described as the Olympic diving gold medal competition. Starting of with Furness bumping a West Hampstead player who did a double backflip in the tuck position scoring a tidy 7/10, Furness however got a green card card for his efforts. Next up Maclane who had stepped to get past a defence man only to swiped at allowing him to perform his acclaimed Inward 2.5 somersault in the pike position scoring an 8/10 from the sideline judges. Again the West Hampstead defence man received a yellow card for his contributions.
Pollock said “Today was a hard fought battle where a few small errors cost us. We have been playing our best hockey recently so hopefully this brings us some winning results”
