Woking started strongly on Saturday. With some silky passing from the first push back, leading to the ball quickly travelling through Trojan’s half. The ball was passed to White where some immense 3D skills were used to enter the D. Blythe was there ready to support White and managed to get that all important ball into the back of the goal! We were less than a minute into the game and Woking had a hard battle ahead of them.
Trojans retaliated helped with some basic errors from Woking, Trojan were awarded their first short corner of the game. It was a simple routine from Trojans but, very well executed. With a straight strike from the top of the D being placed into the right post corner, making the score 1-1.
Woking continued to fight and with some great running from O’Brian, gained our first short corner. Trojans were ready and straight out to defend.
Smith showed some great improvements and confidence this week with excellent control of the ball in the D. She moved well with White and they were unlucky not to score again.
It wasn’t long before Trojans were back in the Woking D and had been awarded another short corner after a silly mistake by the defence. Sticking to the same routine Trojans went for the straight strike again. Derman read the play well and logged, the ball went over her hip and hit her hand pad before crossing the line. Nicholas was quick to question whether the ball had been hit too high for the first strike. The goal was disallowed and half-time was reached with the score at 1-1.
After the players took responsibility for the half-time talk, they set the goals they wanted to achieve. However, the 2nd half proved to be no easier for Woking.
There was some great vision from the defence and tight marking. Trojans struggled to get any shots away in open play. It wasn’t long however, before Trojans gained another short corner, when they went for a left post deflection. Their set play didn’t happen to plan, but from the well placed shot from the top of the D the ball travelled fast into back of the goal on the left post. Woking were now 2-1 down.
Woking continued to try hard in the 2nd half but lost structure and shape making it tough work to defend. Pepall had an excellent game playing a new position and Blythe played well going in for all the 50/50 balls. Woking failed to move out of the left channel and Trojans fought hard to keep it going down their right.
In the last 15 minutes of the game Woking stepped up the attack and White was unlucky when a great strike bounced off the post and was cleared out by the Trojans defence. The final whistle went leaving the score at 2-1 to Trojans.
Woking had a long, motivational debrief after the game and are ready to come out fighting harder than ever next week against Oxford!
