Guildford Ladies 1s vs Woking Ladies 1s.
3-1
Broadwater School, Godalming
Woking showed a great deal of improvement in their first game of the second half of the season. Whilst the scoreline was a little disappointing, Woking did underline the great steps forward they've made by really taking the game to Guildford.
Guildford looked visibly surprised by the speed with which Woking started the game. Woking weren't able to capitalise on their good start and Guildford's, Julie Blackstock, scored after 12 minutes, following a good piece of skill by their forwards. Two minutes later Guildford quickly went 2-0 up, through Alice O'Hagan, off a strong strike from a short corner.
Anja Aldin, from Guildford, made it 3-0 just before half time after another short corner. It took an unlucky deflection off a Woking foot, Derman was able to make the initial save but only succeeded in putting the ball into the path of a Guildford striker who finished easily.
Camps delivered one of her rousing team talks and changed the structure at half time. Woking started the second half with good intent and again had Guildford on the back foot. An excellent move up the right hand side of the pitch culminated in Pepall scoring a fantastic flick over the keeper.
Guildford ramped the pressure up but the Woking defence stood firm. Stone and Burton-Brown commanded the centre of the pitch and managed some excellent distribution. Nicholas and Pepall put in a phenomenal amount of work to help the defence, but were also required to go forward and attack when the chance presented itself.
Whilst not the result Woking would have wanted, this game against the top of the league proves just how much they have improved over the last few months and lays the foundation for a much brighter second half of the season.
