Woking Ladies 2s went into their first league match against Richmond Ladies 2s full of confidence following a solid series of pre-season friendlies and several competitive training sessions. After a relatively tetchy first few minutes from both teams, the match settled into a early pattern of composed build up play from Richmond and from the breakdown, fast counter attacking hockey from Woking. Towards the end of the 2nd half, Richmonds pressure told and from a penalty corner they went into half time deservedly 0-1 up.
The second half though saw a different Woking team emerge from the dug out - which may have been down to some stern words from TP! 50/50s started to become Woking ball with some great out-letting from the back, more abs more incursions into the attacking D came our way! From a penalty corner mid way through the second half, sticker Claire Brouner stuck from the top of the D and the ball crashed into the bottom right hand corner of the goal: 1-1 with about 15 minutes to go.
The last few minutes saw a frenzy of goal mouth action; but there was no way through for Richmond as Woking, marshalled by Katy Robinson and Lou Riddell in the back line repelled every attack - putting their bodies on the line when required! Both teams were exhausted at the final whistle with a share of the spoils being a fair reward for their efforts!
1-1 the final score; Woking Ladies 2s are off!
-Man of the Match: Gemma Brydone (aka cool as a cucumber)
-Wally: Lucy Butler (for talking her and Lou into TP’s bad books)
