Woking Wolves (by Angela Baldwin)
Team of Haiden (GK), Miguel, Akhil, Sam B, Charlie E, Oliver S, Dan Q, Alex McK
v Old Cranleighans 1: Drew 1:1, goal by Daniel Q
v Guildford 1: Drew 0:0:
v Cranleighans 2: Won 3:0, goals from Sam B (2) and Charlie E
v Guildford 2: Won 6:0, goals from Daniel Q, Oliver S, Daniel Q and Sam B (3)
The Wolves started the first game strongly and scored early. They continued to pressure and with a string of chances were unlucky not to score again. A late goal by the opposition was unfortunate as the Wolves gave the ball away in defence when it was in fact a Woking hit from the side line. Lesson learnt – play to the umpires whistle. The second match saw the Wolves up against Guildford 1 thought to be the strongest side. This was a high quality match with chances on both sides and great defending all round. Woking were perhaps unlucky not to win it as there was a goal line scrap with our players claiming it was over the line, but alas no VAR.
With confidence riding high matches 3 & 4 saw some great play and a relative flood of goals.
Well done both our GKs as we lent them out a few times to the opposition, which in part gave our boys an added incentive to score against their own.
Woking Wasps (By Jonathan Barlow)
Team of Jack McK (GK), Joseph E, Joe H, Max H, Isaac, Rory M, Albie, Dan H
Wasps v Old Cranleighans 1: Lost 1:0
This was a hard fought game which went against the run of play. Several opportunities were missed as the team got used to their positions. A slow start to an otherwise good afternoons play.
Wasps v Guildford 2: Won 4:0, goals from Albie Barlow (3) and Joseph E (1).
The team played really well and battled to make it look an easy win. Joseph’s goal was a cleanly hit ball from a rebound.
Wasps v Cranleighans 2: Won 5:0, goals from Albie (3) Max (2)
A very strong game with 3 in defence and 3 in midfield, OC’s only had one real shot. The midfield played well and kept to their positions.
Wasps v Guildford 1: Won 4:0, goals from Albie, Max and Joe H
The 4th and final game against Guildford 1s was another convincing 4-0 win.
The afternoon’s hockey by the boys improved as it went on and they recognised their strengths. There was some good passing between them and some very tenacious tackling. I asked that they mark their players and work hard which they all did. My only worries were that given they were winning they left their positions occasionally and were exposed once or twice at the back. But a good afternoons hockey well done boys.
