Great afternoon in the sun.

Woking Wolves – 24 March 2019

Team Charlie W (GK), Sam C, Alec CJ, James T, Gideon W, Alex T, Rory M, Edward C
by Chris Clayton-Jones

Game 1 – v Old Kingstonians A
A slightly nervous start against a good team with play back and forth up the pitch. As the game progressed Wolves seemed to settle a bit and got some good possession in midfield with some nice passes between the midfield and the front players. Alex Trevers slotted home from the back post to score the only goal in the game, from a pass across the D. Final score 1-0 to Woking Wolves.

Game 2 – v Old Kingstonians B
OK B team looked an easier proposition compared to the previously played OK As. The majority of the possession was with Wolves. Some nice passing between Alec, Sam, Alex, Gideon and Rory. However, a couple of times we stopped playing even though the umpire hadn’t blown enabling OK B to steal the ball. The first of our goals came from Alec CJ who dribbled through the centre and scored. OK B pulled a goal back after our defence were caught on the hop. Shortly after, another goal came from Wolves to seal the win. Final score 2-1 to Woking Wolves.

Game 3 – v Woking Wasps
A tight game – with some defending to do. Well done to Charlie Webster in goal who stopped a few attacks. Our defenders needed to get back more quickly and mark their players – some lessons for the future. Midfield were strong and kept the ball at the right end of the pitch for long periods but Wolves kept on clearing their lines well and counter- attacking. Alec CJ scored from a ball that had been taken into the D wide and passed across by Ollie R (where did he come from!). The boys were disappointed to have a goal disallowed (hit from outside the D by Alex T). Final score – 1-1

Game 4 – v Staines
Fourth game in a row with no break and the boys were starting to puff a little in the hot sunshine. Some great attacking play from Ollie R who made several runs into the opposition D. One great chance missed by Wolves when the ball shot across the D at high speed only to be missed by Gideon (and everyone else) to go out for a side line. Some tenacious defending from James Tyler in this game and a great diving stick save from Charlie as well-kept Staines at bay for most of the game. Two goals from Wolves (Alec C-J and Rory M) offset by a goal from Staines meant another win. Final score 2-1 to Woking Wolves.

Overall, a good day out for the boys to top the table with three wins and a draw. Against better opposition our goal keeper may have had more to do as our defence weren’t always quick to get back and our man marking could be improved. Some good stick skills and passing in attack though. Well done Wolves!
