England Hockey Cup thriller!!

On a beautiful sunny day Holcombe travelled to Woking for a cup decider. Both teams started of strong with passes fast and furious. From the off it was obvious that the visiting team had strength and very impressive skills but Woking were able to match this with good passing and determined play. Woking pressed hard and were rewarded with a couple of short corners. Unfortunately to no reward although a great shot across goal from Emma just skidded past the post.
Both teams continued to press and it was Holcombe's turn to be rewarded with a short corner. They executed this move very well and first goal went to them after just 5 minutes. 0-1 Holcombe.
Woking came back strong and were rewarded with 2 more short corners. A beautiful strike by Claudia just couldn't find the back of the net.
Holcombe then managed to have the momentum with them and pressed hard at our goal. We struggled to get it out of our half but our back line of Hannah, Isabelle,Kate and Sophie held strong making some excellent tackles. Holcombe went on to get another 4 short corners, the pressure seemed relentless. Our rock in goal, Clappie, however stood firm and made 4 fantastic saves over a 10 minute period. A couple of breaks came for Woking but Holcombe always seemed to foil our attempts, our girls were in need of half time! Clappie then began to organising our girls from the back and with a few rousing and encouraging words" There's nobody in the bloody D!!!" Our shape returned and the half time whistle blew. 0-1 Holcombe.
The second half began and Woking seemed to have a renewed energy about the team. Going for every tackle Claudia, Elise, Sophie and Cara kept trying to feed the forwards with some useful ball. Gracie came into her own down the left wing and Carmen made some great moves through the middle. Katy and Emma were waiting in the D ready to pounce on any ball they could. Play had to be stopped a couple of times due to injuries and also some of our team being given a gentle nudge by the referee that some of our tackles were slightly over zealous!!
It looked like our pressure had finally worked when the goal went into the back of the net. However the whistle was blown for an infringement in the D just seconds before so no goal, short corner to us.
This did not put us of and channeling our inner Scottish rugby team come back spirit we pushed forward and at last a lovely cross in from Cara from the right went just to where Katy loves it and she tapped it in!! 1-1!! The momentum was with us now and before long another great pass came in from Claudia and Gracie was there to slot it home!!! 2-1 with 4 minutes to go!! Holcombe being the fabulous side they were came back at us even managing to get the ball passed Clappie, but in an excellent effort immense Isabelle flew across the goal and swept the ball of the line!! 2 minutes were called and all the Woking parents could not watch when again Isabelle came to the rescue with some calm and effective defending. At last time was up 2-1 to Woking a fabulous second half come back and a place in the Regional finals awaits. Massive well done to all the girls on the pitch, it truly was a team effort!! All looking forward now to the 12th of May!!
A brilliant game of Hockey to watch with both teams giving it their all. The oppo did not give a man of the match but the girls all chose their man as Gracie. Martins man of the match was Clappie for some excellent goalkeeping and some fabulous spirited and encouraging coaching from the back!!
