First game of the season....

The first match of the season is always an unknown and with an opposition that we didn't know too much about, we weren't really sure what to expect. The whole squad was available to play and every member turned up excited and full of enthusiasm. A big thank you at this stage for Brooke and Libby for playing for the U16s as without them, the game would not have gone ahead. As the game got underway it was clear that we were playing a very attacking game with some great positivity. After 7 mins, Izzy scored our first goal from a superb hit in from Poppy. Not the prettiest but a goal none the less. This immediately lifted what was already good spirits and quickly enabled the girls to settle down into a rhythm. The 2nd quarter continued with us dominating the game with some solid support coming from the midfield of Hannah, Poppy,Michaela and Gisella. A superb strike from Luci got us our 2nd goal followed quite quickly by Izzy's 2nd goal ably assisted by a solid strike from Amelie. By the 3rd quarter the heat was proving a little too much and the U16s started to take advantage but with some solid defence work from Sophie, Sophie, Amelie and Charlotte and great goal keeping from Izzy, any attempts on goal were thwarted. Just when we thought it was going to be the quarter with no goals, a strike across from Alice enabled Jess to score her first goal followed quite quickly by her 2nd. 5-0 up going into the last quarter and exhaustion starting to show, we did not expect to get yet another 2 goals. Some great teamwork and solid passing from Poppy to Alice, and a strike to the top of the D enabled Jess to score her 3rd Goal. Some great midfield play continued and with a great injection from Matilda, Izzy scored her 3rd and the final goal. It was a great game to watch and with the final score 7-0, a game to be proud of. Lots to take back to training, but a great start to the season. Hoping we can do the same next Sunday against Old Georgians. Thank you to Adam and Alan the coaches and for Owen and Gihan for umpiring.
