Season opener at home

For the Woking U16 Tigers start to the season a friendly was arranged against Alton. The girls took to the pitch as a new team keen to showcase their abilities and determination. They certainly came out with determination and it wasn't long before Claudia had a fabulous run through the middle managing to squeal her way past 3 defenders only to be stopped in front of goal by a foot. The girls had laid down their intentions and pushed on from this attack with a further 3 in the first 10 minutes! It was all looking very positive with some lovely passing in midfield with the girls trying to get to know each other and work together.
Unfortunately, a moment of lack of concentration by our team let one of the Alton girls have a clear run through on goal and Emily had no chance. 1-0 to Alton.
The game was played in 4 quarters and the girls went on to dominate the 2nd quarter. Again some lovely passing through midfield to the forwards and the Alton goalie had to earn her keep making 3 saves one after the other. The opening goal was proving to be elusive!!
In a rare moment Alton had an attack on goal but Emily made a fabulous save and Amica was proving to be a defensive rock for us. Half time and it remained 0-1.
The next two quarters continued to see our girls pushing forward and having 5 attempts on goal all being saved and well defended by Alton. Eloise and Elise were linking well with Nicola, Cara and Claudia and making it very hard for the Alton girls to get into our D. The girls determination and fitness was clear to see but the goal was not to come. In the dying moments we were awarded a Short but an unlucky bounce meant no score from there. Full time 1-0 to Alton.
As a first match for the girls, they showed that they are able to move the ball around the pitch well and already were starting to link up 3-4 passes going forward. A frustrating match for the girls not getting the score, especially as they dominated the match with Alton only having 5 real attempts on goal. All the girls played well and should be pleased with their performance.
Lots to look forward to however for the season, I am sure the first goal will come in the next match!!
