Cup Match

Chertsey travelled to Woking for this Cup match and even the sun decided to come out to watch! The game started with strong play and good passing from both teams. Woking soon however were showing their intent and beginning to pile pressure onto Chertsey's D. The girls were rewarded with a short corner but too many touches saw the chance go begging. The girls continued to pile on the pressure, a cross in from Cara saw Katy and Sophie both putting in shots on target but their defence was holding strong. Other attacks where then to come with Emma putting in a good strike on goal and Nicola, Katy and Claudia all linking well in attack but the goal was starting to look like it wouldn't come.
Chertsey set up some good attacks on goal but Eloise, Izzy and Elise were working well in defence with Dora hardly having to make any saves.
The pressure continued from the Tigers and more short corners were awarded but still no joy.
Then a period of play in the D with the ball bouncing back and forwards and finally the ball found the back of the net but the Ref had blown for a short corner a fraction of a second before!!!
The pressure continued and after some lovely passing from Claudia to Cara who knocked it back to Nicola then put in a well timed pass to Claudia who had made her way to the top of the D, Claudia struck the ball into the back of the net!! 1-0 just seconds before the half time whistle blew!!
Half time and as well as great advice from the coaches, Woking deploied their expert video ref Sheonagh who passed on some wise words on the girls positioning!!
It must have worked as the girls came back onto the pitch and it wasn't long before they were back pressing into Chertsey's D. A lovely run from Nicola who then worked the 1-2 with Emma, she ran into the D and then put a beautiful ball across the goal that Lola slotted in!! 2-0
Chertsey then had a good period where they threatened our goal on numerous occasions. Zara in the middle was clearing the ball well and the danger passed. Woking were on the surge again and a well struck ball by Cara from the top right of the D was put past the goalie 3-0. Woking were now on fire and Chertsey were starting to look despondent especially with the icy shower that came down. Katy, Nicola, Emma and Claudia all had shots on goal ,there were some tough tackles, fabulous positioning on the wings from Sophie, Hannah and Michaela and at times some colourful language but the teamwork the girls were showing was fantastic.
The last goal came from dynamic duo Nicola and Claudia with a great pass in from Nicola and a solid finish from Claudia. Final score 4-0.
The girls came out fighting and playing well together from the first minute until the last. I feel one of their best team performances this season!!
