Thanks Skip

By Giles Smith

Oli Cochrane has stepped down as WWFC Captain.

6 seasons ago Oli took on the unenviable task of following in the footsteps of club legend Silvio Sorce as our Captain.

Having made only 2 appearances at the back end of the 12/13 season Oli was made skipper by manager Matt Gibbins after impressing during pre-season in 13/14.

He started playing at right back, but soon moved into midfield where he became a crucial player despite it being a new position. His first season as skipper saw him reach double figures for both goals and assists as we were promoted to Division 1.

Title races followed in 15/16 and 16/17 where we narrowly fell short to two strong teams, but in 17/18 Oli became the first WWFC skipper to lead us to a league title and our first ever piece of silverware.

In 18/19 Oli passed the century mark in appearances as captain. He is the first to pass the mark, making him the longest serving captain in our history. He missed only a few games as we fell narrowly short in the league and he also lead us out in only our second ever cup final where we put in a great display against the odds and were unlucky not to win.

All at WWFC would like to thank Oli for his outstanding commitment in the role, both on and off the pitch. Although he won't be playing as many games in the 19/20 season due to coaching commitments, we do look forward to seeing him in WWFC colours plenty more times where his experience and quality will be invaluable to the team.

Thanks Oli!
