Impressive team display in poor conditions sees us beat Brookwood 2-4 and go 3rd.

This was another great win in what is becoming a historic season for Woking & Weybridge.

So often we have been also rans since promotion to Division 2, but a run of 24 points from the last 30 sees us on the cusp of a possible run at promotion.

The fact we have played more games than those around us may eventually scupper such thoughts of grandeur, but as long as this form continues our chances grow.

When we arrived at the ground it was clear the pitch had seen (much) better days, but this was a surprisingly entertaining game throughout.

We started really brightly, but the first chance fell to the home team, but their striker was denied by Damian Lynch when through on goal.

A few minutes later we took the lead. James Bauldry played an incisive through ball for Joey Stevens and he as brought down in the area. Joey converted his 5th penalty of the season to end his 'drought' of 4 games and net his 50th goal for the club.

For the next 15 minutes we created a series of fantastic chances. It's hard to remember them all to be honest, but their keeper, former WWFC player Jason Orriss made 3 or 4 fine saves, Luca had an effort cleared off the line onto the underside of the bar, the impressive Lorenzo Favata hit the post and debutant Toby Maher blazed a great opening over the bar.

Needless to say we were punished. On 25 Damo palmed a free kick away but it fell to a Brookwood player who tapped home.

Their striker should have given them the lead soon after, but he dragged his effort wide.

Just before half time we took the lead and it was no less than we deserved. Joey's cross from the right was only cleared as far as Luca Mortellaro who cut inside past his man and fired a low strike past the helpless keeper into the far corner.

The game was eventually settled in the first 10 minutes of the second half by two Brookwood errors. Firstly Tom Davis' well struck effort from range was spilled by the keeper into the net and then when a pass back was left short Joey poached his second to kill the game off.

Joey should have made it 5-1 shortly after, but he missed the target when clean through.

For the remainder of the game we were forced to soak up a lot of pressure, during which we gave away a lot of free kicks, but Brookwood weren't creating clear openings. There were plenty of shots from range, but they only lead to routine saves for Damo.

They did pull one back on 72 with a header from a corner, but we held on resolutely and could have added a 5th late on when a slick move lead to a Dan Wicks shot being well saved.

Given the opposition and the pitch this was a really fine display by us from back to front. Everyone played well and it is hard to single out individual performances.

Next week we face SJ Earthquakes in the first round of the Cup we so desperately want to win. If we play like this we will have a great chance of progressing, but it will be a tough game.

MoM - Lorry - good defensively and creative going forward, a really strong showing.

Congrats to Joey on reaching 50.

Thanks to Andy for supporting and to Steve for running the line.
