3rd defeat on the bounce as Castle steal it late on.

WWFC remain pointless after The Castle stole the 3 points with an 86th minute winner at the New Berger.

I seem to be saying the same thing every week, but this was once again a game we should not have lost.

Despite the over-inflated ego of their skipper, the teams were very evenly matched today and clear cut chances were few and far between in what was quite a scrappy affair.

We took the lead on the 15 minute mark when we were awarded a very soft penalty for a shirt tug on Giancarlo Mortellaro. Tom Davis dispatched the penalty in Joey's absence.

Damian Lynch made a decent low save direct from a corner as the visitors threatened from set pieces, while Carlo and Alex Zammit had decent openings at the other end, but neither managed to make the keeper work.

The Castle levelled on the half hour mark from a wide free kick as the cross evaded everyone and went in via the post.

After half-time we dominated for 15 minutes and had 3 very presentable chances. Two fell to Carlo who fired over after a fine move saw Adam Miles cut the ball back to him and he later shot wide after a defensive error. Zam also missed narrowly with a header from Lorenzo Favata's corner.

We had the post to thank midway through the half as a misguided cross hit the upright while their striker tried to bundle home and Damo made a smart save from a long range free kick.

As the clock ticked down it appeared the game was heading for a draw, but the Castle managed to knick a winner from a deep free kick after their tall midfielder won the flick on and one of their players latched onto it and prodded home.

We tried to get an equaliser as Odgie worked the keeper from a free kick, but it wasn't to be.

This result rather sums up the way things have gone for us so far this season. Our lack of composure in front of goal has probably cost us all of the 9 points we have failed to get in the 3 games. We have defended well enough and created enough, but only have 2 goals to our name. We worked very hard up top and the build up was fine, so hopefully the goals will come. We know we can do it.

It is clear we expected better from the first month of our League campaign and we should have achieved more, but we are now playing catch up. The spirit shown today was excellent and we looked much more of a team than we did against Byfleet.

Defensively we had a very strong game with Oli Cochrane, James Simpson and Silvio Sorce all excelling, while it was nice to have Damo back in goal.

There were certainly some positives to take from this match as we head into our County Cup match next week which may well prove to be a welcome distraction.

MoM - Jay - Could have been anyone from the backline, but Jay had a very solid match.

Dunce of the day - no show Richardy - what a bellend.

Thanks to ShitPic for running the line and to those who came down to support.
