Congratulations to Woking & Maybury who picked up the 3 points they needed to win the SHBL Division 1 title. They are worthy Champions.

Ultimately today's must win game was decided by 5 minutes during the first half. Woking & Maybury put in some quality deliveries that we weren't equipped to deal with and they took their opportunities clinically.

Prior to this we had been unable to take advantage of a good start during which W&M looked very nervy defensively.

Joey Stevens' 10th goal of the campaign gave us hope before half-time, but despite a spirited effort W&M defended well in the second half and saw the game through to end our title hopes.

3-1 may have flattered the hosts as it was a very even game this morning, but we can have no complaints at the result. We needed to show more composure having gone behind in order to keep ourselves in the game, but unfortunately that composure only came once they had got themselves into an unassailable position.

Our effort, desire and bottle cannot be questioned this week. It was a positive response from last week's debacle, but in the end we didn't quite have the required quality to produce an unbelievable comeback.

It was also regrettable that 3 or 4 players were clearly not fully fit, but we thank them for their commitment to the cause.

In the end we have come up short in the League. We couldn't get it to the last game and give ourselves a chance at making history. Obviously it is very disappointing and we should be hurting, but I am largely proud of the campaign we have had thus far. All we can do now is dust ourselves down and focus on the Invitation Cup 1/4 final and our last remaining league game.

Having had to witness a team celebrating success close up we should use that to spur us on in the Invitation Cup.

We don't have a match next week, which is a timely break that will allow players to rest injuries.
