Preparations for the 16/17 season began in earnest this morning as we took on Division 1 newcomers Bisley All Stars at Winston.
Our visitors volunteered to be promoted to Division 1 despite a tough season last time round, but on the evidence of this game they will cope well with the jump up to the top tier.
The WWFC squad for today was: Ryan, Jay, Baulds, Ell, Lorry, Oli, Gilo, Charlie, Luca, Joe, Tobes, Ads Maher, Rob, Silv, Andy.
It would be fair to say we didnt quite hit the ground running and in the first half in particular we were extremely rusty. Bisley deserved their lead at half-time.
In the second half we improved and goals from Oli, set up well by Luca, and a big deflection from Luca's shot saw us turn it round before the hour mark.
Both teams had clear cut chances but we just about edged home.
As always very little should be read into pre-season friendlies. It was a scrappy first run out, but there were some good performances with Adam Maher impressing in particular. Ryan had a busy first outing in goal, but made some good saves and his distribution was outstanding at times. Luca, Tob, Joe and Oli were all lively going forward as well.
Next week we face AFC Egham.
Thanks to Damo, Grouty and Wils for coming down to watch and to those who ran the line.
