Reds win the 'battle of the WWFC's' in comfortable fashion at Holloway Hill.

After getting nothing from a good performance a week ago at Uni Strollers, it was important we picked up the 3 points at Witley Wanderers this morning.

Having missed several very presentable chances at Surrey Sports Park, it was somewhat of a relief to see our first chance find the back of the net inside the opening few minutes. James Simpson swung over a set piece from the right touchline and the ball fell to Alex Zammit who poached home from a couple of yards out left footed.

We started on the front foot and dominated much of the first half. Zammo was denied by a great save by their keeper on the 10 minute mark, as he diverted Zam's powerful effort on to the far post following excellent set up play by Joey Stevens.

The returning Robbie Wilson was next to go close as he exchanged a neat one-two with Simon Grout before seeing his shot tipped over.

Just after 20 minutes we extended our lead. Zam's cute lay off found Luca Mortellaro, who roared past two challenges and then saw his shot squirm under the grasp of their keeper.

On the half hour mark it was 0-3. Charlie Elliott's desire saw him win a header on half way, finding Luca down the left hand side. He waited for support before delivering a tantalising low cross that Joey easily finished.

Witley worked Ryan Pardo-Roques once from a half chance just before the interval, but we had controlled the match efficiently and had seen all three of our frontline score. No complaints at half-time.

We started the second half in a similar vein as the opening period and really should have extended our lead early on. Great play by Luca down the left saw him cut back to Joey, but he fired over when well placed. Lorenzo Favata played an accurate ball to Luca again, and this time he cut inside before seeing his goalbound effort blocked on the line. From the resulting corner Joey's delivery found Wils who hit the crossbar.

A few minutes later Witley made us pay as a swift break down our left saw their striker get to the byline before crossing low to the backpost where their midfielder fired past Ryan who had no chance.

This gave Witley some belief and Ryan was required to make a fine save from a good effort by their striker, tipping his 20 yard effort wide.

With just under 20 minutes to go we killed the game. Elliott Jones passed out to the right side to Charlie. He found Joey, who turned and cleverly passed to the onrushing Oli Cochrane and he crashed the ball past the keeper via the far post for the pick of our goals.

The remainder of the game turned slightly sour. Witley saw a player sent off for a desperately poor lunge on Charlie who was very lucky to avoid serious injury and a second player followed him off in the dying stages having picked up two bookings in quick succession. We have played Witley many times down the years and this certainly wasn't a true representation of their club, but the first red card was an extremely dangerous tackle.

Needless to say the last 10 minutes of the game were a complete non event. Wils went closest for us, heading over from Joey's corner.

3 games down, 3 good performances and 6 points. It has been a positive start to the season for us. We have looked assured defensively and were much more clinical in front of goal today. Next week will be a big test against a JB Rangers side who have also made a good start to their season.

MoM: Joey - brilliant in the first half, scoring a deserved goal and then set up another in the second half. Plenty of candidates today with Luca, Zam, Oli and Wils all impressing in a good all round showing by the team.

Thanks to Lorry, Charlie and Jay for running the line and to those who came to support.
