Today we entered the Golden Jubilee Cup at the 3rd round stage. We made a swift exit.
It is very rare for us to have our squad decimated like it was for this morning's game. Unfortunately it was just one of those weeks where half the squad, and several key players, were legitimately unavailable and it was not a good time to play a strong Bisley side.
We must thank Charlie Elliott for changing work schedules to make himself available, Adam Maher for playing on his Birthday after a heavy night out and James Simpson for playing through injury. Without this we would have been utterly f*cked this morning.
The 11 we put out, as unbalanced as it was, did the club proud for an hour. Luca Mortellaro gave us an early lead, tapping home after the keeper parried Alex Zammit's shot.
Bisley turned it around and lead 1-2 at the break (the second goal was stunning), but we were giving them a game. We continued to do so until the hour mark when they made it 1-3.
From here on they scored some clinical goals and worked the ball well against our tiring team, notching up 4 more goals in the process.
Not much to add really. A tough morning to endure, but we must focus on the effort put in during the first hour, rather than the torrid last 3rd of the game. Just the 3 league games to go now. Let's try and end the season positively.
MoM: Ryan - in all honesty it feels odd giving the goalkeeper MoM after a defeat like this, but Ry made a number of excellent saves, had no chance with their goals and was also incredibly unlucky on a couple of them (making brilliant saves only for the rebound to fall to a Bisley player to tap in). And he made the long trip back from Birmingham for the game. Top stuff.
Thanks to Gibbo for running the line. Hugely appreciated.
