We could probably copy and paste the match report from this weekend last season when we were unceremoniously thrashed by the eventual County Cup winners, AFC Hammersmith. It wouldn't be a surprise if Lightwater follow in their footsteps.
Against a good side like this you need to be as close to full strength as possible, but unfortunately we had 4 late dropouts that left the squad thin. Then Charlie Elliott also dropped out with an injury, despite his best efforts in the warm up.
20 minutes in, and already 2-0 down, Alex Zammit was on the receiving end of a reckless challenge that saw him have to go off as one injured player in Gilo replaced another.
We have had an excellent run with a consistent squad and have basically had things our own way. That ended this morning with a chastening defeat as Lightwater ran out comfortable and deserved winners.
All in all this was a disappointing morning and not the way we wanted to start the year. What's important is we did get a game under our belts after the Xmas break.
We may be out of the County Cup, but we have 3 Border League competitions to play for so our focus now changes.
Thanks to all the players who turned up and put in a shift for the club on a difficult morning.
