Zammo's Half Dozen

Alex Zammit breaks long standing record as he goes goal crazy in Milford Green win.

We often have goal filled games vs Milford Green and this was no different as both sides really went for it in an attacking sense with Zammo running riot for us.

A quick start saw us 2-0 up inside 5 minutes. Firstly the press from Dan on the keeper landed their left back in trouble and Zammo stole it of him before finding the net via a heavy touch by the keeper. Then Ell took a quick free kick to Harri who's pass drew the keeper out and forced the left back into a last ditch clearance, but the ball fell to Dan who slotted in his first goal for the club with the keeper in no man's land.

Milford certainly had quality going forward and were back in it after 11 minutes and a good spell of football followed with both sides creating almost at will.

The next goal fell to us on 27 as Harri's accurate set piece found Zammo at the backpost and he nodded in, but 10 minutes later Milford feasted upon some sloppy defending to get back into it at 3-2.

Our 4th came from Harri's corner as a poor header fell to Oli and although his shot was well saved Zammo was there to head home a first half hat-trick of headers.

It got better for Zammo a minute later as Harri delivered expertly again for Zammo who got between two defenders to head into the bottom corner for 5-2 at half-time and we'd even seen Jay smack a shot against the bar from 10 yards out aswell.

Such was the flow of the game, the next goal was still important and we got it to kill off any Milford hopes. Harri's through ball was flicked by Grouty to Zammo who raced through and fired past the keeper for a record equalling 5th goal of the morning.

Harri was involved again for our 7th as Milford's defence went to sleep and he cut the ball across for Webby who was the only alert player and he slid in his first of the season.

The only remaining question was whether Zammo could make history and bag our first ever double hat-trick and when we won a penalty for handball there was only one man to take it. He stepped up and coolly found the corner for his sixth to set a new record, eclipsing that of Craig Baker and Joey Stevens (both 5 in a match).

Milford did continue to threaten in the second half and we needed a couple of big saves from Carl in goal (thanks for stepping in) to save us in what was an incredibly open match.

No game next week before a tough run of fixtures to end October.

MoM: Zammo - for obvious reasons, but huge mentions for Harri who was involved in 6 of the goals and to Grouty who really gave the Milford defence a torrid morning.

Big thanks to Rich and Jay for running the line.
