Easy win at West Addlestone gets Reds back on track after October blip.

We had suffered 3 straight losses heading into this game and it was clear by looking at the League table that our season was at somewhat of a crossroads. A win at Ottershaw and we would be back on track pushing towards the top 4, but should we had suffered a loss we would be level on points with today's opponents and looking over our shoulders at the struggling teams.

Thankfully today was as straight forward a win as we could have hoped for. West Addlestone battled hard throughout, but we always looked the superior team and eventually the scoreline showed that.

After dominating the opening 15 minutes, we took the lead after Giles Smith earned a penalty. He had linked well with Luca Mortellaro and was in on goal before he was clipped. The oppo argued it was soft. It wasn't. It was blatant and they certainly would have wanted a penalty if roles were reversed. Luca stepped up and coolly slotted home for his 3rd of the season.

It was 2-0 on 22. Damian Lynch's powerful long kick evaded their defence and Gilo ran through and finished it off. The sight of seeing Gilo outpace their floundering back four was a key sign this was a game we should win.

At this point we were very comfortable, but on 35 we were a bit too comfortable - giving the ball away sloppily and they fired home a long ranger.

Right on half time we got the key goal of the game. Andy Harwood launched his trademark long throw and Silvio Sorce met it with a fine header that hit the post and went in. They had put their smallest player on Silv and he brushed him aside with ease - somewhat of a tactical error perhaps.

Into the second half and we reminded ourselves of our collapse at this ground last season. Needless to say we were determined to finish this game off.

We made it 4-1 on 52 with a superb team goal. Forgive me if I fail to mention everyone involved, but it started at the back with some calm passing by Silv and Mark Penny. They passed it to James Simpson and he moved the ball on to Adam Miles. Ads passed to Luca, Luca fed Ashley Ellis down the right. He stormed passed his man and delivered the perfect cross to the back post where Gilo tapped home. It is a shame we missed the goal recording wide as it was a beaut of a team goal.

West Addlestone continued to plug away to their credit and for the next 15 minutes they applied some pressure with some long balls and set pieces. We kept them at bay decently although did welcome some of the pressure with some sloppy moments.

Ash should have killed the game on 65. Clean through in goal, he skipped past the keeper and very unusually for him missed the open goal by hitting the bar with his left foot. It was a carbon copy of Ronny Rosenthal's infamous miss a few years ago.

Then it was Gilo's turn to have a chance to kill the game off. Elliot Jones played a great headed pass to set him free in behind and after turning his man Gilo's shot was excellently tipped onto the bar to prevent a hat trick. Should have scored to be honest and could have set up a couple of other players. Apologies.

To Ash's great credit, he did kill the game off on 74. Alex Palinski won a header the set Ash through and this time he showed great mental strength to fire past the keeper clinically.

It was 6-1 on 82. Again we passed the ball around wonderfully - nearly every player was involved at some point and we nearly rounded it off for a brilliant team goal, but when Addlestone failed to clear, substitute Carl Sulzmann waltzed past 2 challenges and dispatched a ruthless low finish for his first of the season.

Addlestone never gave up and got themselves a 2nd long ranger to make it 6-2, but Ash deservedly got himself a 2nd finishing off Harwood's cut back.

We have to be honest and admit the opposition did struggle today and had a bare 11, but we can only beat what is in front of us. In the past we may have struggled to do so, but not today. We really needed to win this so it was job done.

At times we played some lovely football, at times we overplayed and at times we rushed to get the ball forward, but on the whole the mix of passing build up and direct play was good and caused the oppo a variety of problems that was too much overall for them to deal with.

Big thanks to Carlo and Dave for running the line. Apologies to Tom and Dave for not getting on, but great attitude shown by both.

It was fantastic to see so many people down watching. Really nice to see Luca's whole family and other family members of players down. It really spurs us on when so many fans are down.

Excellent to see Rog come and watch and we wish him the best with his recovery from surgery. Hopefully see that number 16 worn before too long.

MOM today was Ash. Despite the miss it was a near complete attacking display. Tormented who ever was marking him, scored two and supplied a brilliant cross for our 4th. Very well played.

In truth everyone played well though so let's enjoy this win and make sure we build upon our first away win of the season for the rest of November.
