WWFC come back from 2-0 down to ultimately thrash Gordon's OB in crazy game at Winston.

This was one of the more interesting games we have played in a while. We made it 6 wins on the bounce, but had to do it the hard way against a dangerous Gordon's side.

Although we ran out comfortable victors in the reverse game, we warned against complacency as Gordon's were much better than the scoreline suggested that day and had some very good attacking players.

Despite this, we were incredibly flat in the early proceedings. Gordon's were awarded a dubious free kick in our area after Richard Crosby was adjudged to have passed it back to Ryan Pardo-Roques. Instead of just smashing it from 7 yards out, they worked it cleverly to a player at the back post and his shot deflected home.

Just after 20 minutes we found ourselves 2 goals down. They switched play and got a cross in to the back post where their striker was afforded far too much space and he squirmed a shot past Ryan who was unlucky not to save it.

We were not at the races, Gordon's had been bright and we deserved to be behind.

From here we staged our own mini Goal of the Season competition as we stunned Gordon's with 3 excellent goals to turn the game on it's head before the interval.

It took a moment of individual brilliance to get us back on track. Joey Stevens laid the ball off to Dan Wicks who let fly from 30 yards with a curling, dipping effort that looped over a surprised keeper.

A few minutes later that goal was possibly bettered. We worked the ball to Jay Mal on the right wing and his cross was met by a failed scissor kick by Wicksy. The ball was only cleared to the edge of the box where Danny Cox met it first time with one of the purest strikes seen at Winston that rocketed past the helpless keeper into the top of the net.

The turnaround was completed 5 minutes before half-time. Sam Lant's long throw was headed out to Coxy who nodded to the returning Simon Grout and he hooked a sweet right footed volley over the keeper to mark his 2nd WWFC debut in real style.

Into the second half, and early on Joey should have made it 4-2, but he headed Sam's throw over when in acres of space 5 yards out.

It was Joey who got us the all important breathing space on the hour mark though. Sam's throw was cleared to Jay. M at the back post and he fired towards goal. His effort hit Oli Cochrane, inadvertently setting Joey up and he poached his 11th of the season.

Our 5th goal just shy of 70 minutes seemed to suck the life out of the visitors. Coxy fed Ashley Britton and he intelligently spread the play out to Jay. M on the right hand side. His cross was partially blocked, but Oli beat his man to the ball before half volleying into the top corner in clinical fashion.

From here on in we put a tiring Gordon's side to the sword and even managed to miss two absolute sitters.

Luca Mortellaro, making his comeback from a lengthy injury, got himself on the scoresheet, coolly clipping over the onrushing keeper after being found by a Grouty through ball.

Alex Zammit made it 6-2 with another bit of magic. Charlie Elliott's cross was cleared to Zammo who chested across the edge of the box before volleying left footed over the keeper. A cracking finish.

Zammo then missed an open goal, hitting the post after being set up nicely by Luca. It was on his weaker foot so there was a bit of leeway on this one.

Ash completed the scoring in the 88th minute. He was found by Elliott Jones and got a well struck effort away from 20 yards that found the bottom corner although the keeper will probably feel he should have saved this one.

We definitely should have added one more goal before the full-time whistle. Lorenzo Favata and Adam Miles linked up well down our left and the former got in behind. Lorry hit it first time and was so unlucky to see his shot hit the bar, but Zammo was there for the rebound to surely make it 9 from a couple yards out. Well... no. Unfortunately for Zammo, no. Somehow he trod on the ball and fell over with the ball basically on the line and their keeper scrambled it away. If there is a worse miss this season we will have seen something utterly amazing.

This wasn't an 8-2 game as Gordon's had given us a good test until the 4th goal, but we should be very pleased with the response to going 2-0 down and the late goal glut that added gloss to the win. A crazy game with some brilliant goals and a couple of hilarious moments. A great advert for Sunday League I'd say.

Best of luck to Gordon's for the rest of their season.

MoM: Wicksy - solid performance and a top goal that turned the tide for us.

Huge thanks to Ads and Wicksy for running the line and to the several fans that came down to support us.
